Bill Talks About Liberty

It’s no secret that I hate the government, not the country, but the big bloated government. I used to be one of those guys that really didn’t care one way or the other. My attitude has always been a live and let live one. Now it’s a leave me alone one. I understand that it’s pretty crappy to be indifferent when it’s the other guy and mad when when they come after me, but that’s the truth. Now I have some regrets.

The FDA is coming and they’re not going away. The people that have a hate on for smokers are in their ear and they are rabid. It’s one thing when the government seizes power they don’t have but it’s another thing altogether when they think they’re doing it for your own good. In that case they will never stop. That’s the case with tobacco. The bureaucrats think they are saving everyone’s lives. I really don’t believe they care what we say or want. That’s not to say we shouldn’t speak out or try to put the brakes on their insanity but in the end it’s an impossible fight when we have already surrendered power to them. I blame guys like me, should have fought them more while I still could have.

So where does that leave me now? Screwed. I love cigars but it’s hard to stockpile cigars on a limited budget. When you look at the cost of a box of cigars you could buy five or six tins of pipe tobacco and each of those tins you get as many smokes as that first box of cigars. It’s one of the reasons I’m shifting more towards the pipe. Plus the storage is easier. This shouldn’t even be a thing, but it is. Even if they don’t outright ban tobacco, which they can’t right now, they will make it so prohibitively expensive that an average guy won’t be able to afford it, especially if they are retired. You have no idea how mad this makes me.

In this case being an old guy is helpful. The amount I need to put away is much smaller than someone who is half my age. What’s that guy supposed to do? Probably has a young family with much more important things to spend his disposable income on, if he even has any. It also limits what manufacturers do in the future. Who in their right mind is going to develop new blends or new cigars if they are so expensive nobody is going to buy them? They are just going to say the heck with it and either look to other countries to market their product or get out the business altogether. All because some jerks in government think they know what’s best. I’m sure they go home at night and dream of all the great things they have accomplished. They won’t give one second of thought of what individuals want in their own lives. It’s the culture of nihilism that we have now.

Right now I have about two years worth of cigars and pipe tobacco stashed away. I’m hoping it’s not enough and I don’t want to cut back my smoking just to stretch it out. Why should I do that? The worst thing that could happen is for me to not enjoy myself then drop dead anyway. So I’m going to keep doing what I want for as long as I can. Here’s the thing, if I were to save up enough tobacco and they ban it I don’t think I would have won. The government will just have to wait long enough for guys like me to be gone and they will be happy. Not the kind of world I would be proud of. You’re supposed to leave the world a better place than when you got it. Taking away people’s liberties and making them conform to government planners is much worse.

If anyone thinks my point is to encourage more people to smoke cigars you’re mistaken. I want people to decide for themselves what they want to do. I put people before government.

Not much else to write about this week. I just see so many events on the YouTube with pipe smokers giving stuff away having fun, getting ready for Christmas and it might all go away someday. It makes me feel terrible.
